I recommend a lot of books to friends and associates, along with really interesting magazines that are sometimes pretty scary - all on computer security.
Most users want something that’s pretty easy to follow and not a lot of theory. If this sounds about right, take a look at [amtap amazon:asin=0072229233] The Healthy PC: Preventive Care and Home Remedies for Your Computer.
Carey Holzman writes in a step-by-step style. That’s pretty much how I write user documentation as well, so I’ve found this is effective for most users.
Another basic book is written in a somewhat breezier style. Not quite the step by step, it is a sort of introduction to computer security. It’s written for the nontechnical user. This one’s called Absolute Beginner’s Guide to Security, Spam, Spyware & Viruses [amtap amazon:asin=0789734591]
This one’s possibly useful to professionals who need to explain concepts in a non-threatening, non-technical way. In short - this is pretty good powerpoint fodder.
